Now that there is more ability to measure traits like IMF, (Intra-muscular fat) and shearforce or (eating quality), it would be short sighted for us not to focus highly on these. However, we do believe that having a ram with all the optimum figures does not always produce an optimum ram.
Therefore, at Glentanna we have made a decision that our rams are classed first and foremost on structure and aesthetics before any figures are taken into account. The figures are the icing on the top if you like.
We are lambplan registered which is great for fine tuning our stud. Gaining feedback on traits like fat cover, eye muscle depth, birth weight and growth rates has meant we can focus on both the individual sheep while steering the whole flock in the right direction.
Of course all feedback from our clients is very much appreciated to keep us heading in the right direction.
